In early 2021, Sinclair Broadcast Group plans to launch its brand new headline news service Sinclair has tapped Jan Jeffcoat, the award-winning news anchor and the creator and host of Scripps national news and entertainment magazine show The List, to sit at the helm of this soon-to-be-launched news service as the main anchor.
This is the latest offering from the news provider and telecommunications giant, who owns or operates 294 local news stations all over the United States, in 89 different markets ranging in all sizes. This of-the-moment headline news service will have Jeffcoat behind the news desk reporting on the most important stories and in real-time. Sinclair hopes that this service can not only give it’s viewers the headlines but can go further in reporting specifically why each story is of importance to and how it will affect their viewing audience’s world.
The Award-Winning Career of Jan Jeffcoat
Beyond her most notable work with Scripps, where she was responsible for the launch and continued success of the news and entertainment magazine TV show, “The List”, Jan Jeffcoat has built a very successful career spanning two decades that has taken her to different regional news media markets, including local TV stations in The Carolinas, Chicago, and Texas. The career of Jan Jeffcoat reached a peak with her work as the main news anchor for WUSA-TV, a local news station in Washington D.C. where she worked for five years as the anchor of that nightly news broadcast.
Highlighting a long list of awards won by Jeffcoat throughout her career are an Emmy and the Murrow Award for her work on a variety of stories that touched the nation. During her time as a local anchor and journalist, Jeffcoat was responsible for covering a range of major news stories, including the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the 2017 Presidential Inauguration. Jeffcoat could also be remembered for her dynamic reporting of the tragic Houston beltway plane crash.
Sinclair Broadcast Group feels very confident in Jeffcoat’s ability to lead this ship and make their brand new news service into a future of exciting success alongside a very talented team of professionals they have chosen to support Jeffcoat.
Cayle Thompson Also Joins Sinclair’s New Live News Service
Second, in command behind Jan Jeffcoat, the headline news show will be co-anchored by Cayle Thompson, an experienced local news anchor who has worked in a range of different regions across America. The pair will bring the latest headlines into the homes of viewers across the U.S. Both Jeffcoat and Thompson have enjoyed storied careers in journalism and are now hoping, from their new positions behind the anchor desk, to provide America a better and clearer understanding of the latest news headlines and how that news will affect the lives of everyday people across the nation.
Thompson believes the launch of a new national news service will be made easier for Sinclair Broadcasting Group because of its intricate network of local stations across the country. He thinks Sinclair’s nationwide network will allow for real-time breaking news that the duo will source and report on. Cayle Thompson went on to explain, “I’m excited to rejoin Sinclair and launch a national newscast that will deliver important breaking headlines and provide a critical context for developing stories in communities around the nation.”
Thompson was a former Seattle-based news anchor and reporter for Sinclair’s local KOMO-ABC. In his two decades of service to the media relations world, Thompson has anchored local news programs for KAKE-ABC Wichita and WINK-CBS Fort Myers
As live desk reporters for Sinclair’s headline news service, Jeffcoat and Thompson will focus on reporting top local and national stories from every corner of the nation. Jeffcoat and Thompson will report live from Sinclair’s Washington D.C. newsroom.
The new service is set to launch sometime in early 2021, but no specific date has yet been set. In the early days of the new news service, Sinclair has not set up a new channel but will broadcast the local and national news through its existing channels. The first steps will be to use the already established, The CW, and METV channels to broadcast live news from 6.00 am to 9.00 am each weekday. As the news service moves forward, both Jan Jeffcoat and Cayle Thompson will provide news and commentary on the biggest stories of each day to viewers around the nation.
